The F-14 was designed to replace the F-4 Phantom II but wouldnt see combat in the Vietnam War, it was only operated by the US Navy and had its first flight in december 21st 1970 but wouldnt enter service until 1974 aboard USS Enterprise CVN-65, it was retired in 22nd September 2006 but is still operated by Iran although the US stopped supplying Iran with spare parts for the F-14.
