In the late sixties, a proposition was made by Goss aircraft to build a nuclear interception system. The programme highlighted the need for supersonic speeds, super advanced radar, long range, and most of all a heavy payload. The design chosen was an enormous swing wing aircraft with a single tail and twin engine layout. It was named the ATI, or all target interceptor, as it was built to intercept any target capable of carrying a nuclear payload. The aircraft had to be huge to compliment it's massive long range radars, advanced flight computers, high fuel and weapons load, and large engines.
