Simple Dassault Mirage III
The Dassault Mirage III is a Mach 2 capable Gen 2 interceptor/fighter developed by the French firm Dassault. At the time the French Air Force was in desperate need of an aircraft that could counter Soviet bombers in a WW3 scenario. Entering service in 1961, the aircraft quickly proved itself. It is considered one of first truly 'modern' fighters, and was the first West European-Developed aircraft to exceed Mach 2. It has proved itself in combat on numerous occasions, in Israeli service, it was their primary fighter during the 1967 Six-Day War, and 1973 Yom Kippur War. It as also seen combat service with Pakistan, Argentina, and South Africa. The highest scoring supersonic jet ace, Giora Epstein-Even, scored 8 of 17 kills in a Mirage III (The other 9 being in the IAI Nesher, which was basically an illegal copy of the Mirage 5). Although mostly retired, this aircraft is still an icon of the Jet Age.
I love the Mirage III, it has a fascinating story behind it, and it looks awesome. I have wanted to do a replica of the jet for a while, but always struggled with shaping the fuselage. I decide to keep it simple and depict this aircraft in a custom livery, with numerous stripes meant to be the French Tricolor.
