The C-119 was designed from the C-82 military transport aircraft successfully developed in 1944. To be specific, C-119 was converted from a C-82A, but all parts were modified and two R4360 air-cooled piston engines were used. Compared with C-82A, the cockpit was moved to the front of the nose, which improved the visual field. The weakness of insufficient strength of wings and landing gear was also solved. The cabin was widened 0.36 meters, and the floor was modified for carrying heavy materials. In addition, the wing area was expanded, and the tail wing was modified.
