PDI M36 Assault Rifle
An assault rifle made by Paternian Defense Industries based on the aborted M31, it is designed to be a lighter, tougher, more accurate, and cheaper replacement to the M18 currently in service. Built with the latest CNC routing and 3D printing, the rifle can be built of greater precision and speed on any scale. Its receiver can be made of any suitable metal, and features a spring-loaded dust cover. The magazine is compatible with the M18 rifle, and will accept M18 magazines. Compared to the M18, it is certainly lighter, faster-firing, has a 4-position selector, more accurate, and cheaper. It is very similar to the IRL AR-15, and its fictional performance matches it. However, unlike the AR-15, it was not accepted into service. The rifle proved to be a bit fragile, and some components were prone to breakage. In addition, the Armed Forces did not believe it was good enough that it warranted replacing the millions of M18 assault rifles already in service, and all felt the M18 was adequate. The M36 was accepted nonetheless for use with special forces units as well as CONPAT (Continental Paternia) Air Force units for airbase security, as their rifles have been removed and issued to frontline units, forcing them to use an aging stock of M10 semi-automatic rifles.

It was intended to. @Smasher
Why does it look like an m16 and m14?😕
@Pilotmario imma reduce it to 3,000 Rifles
@GALM1 X3
@Pilotmario That's ok@YuukaNeko ok
@GALM1 Just saying... no modern military orders firearms by the MILLIONS in bulk. It's usually less than 100,000 per order, especially when old weapons have to be phased out or otherwise
Ehhh... Can't build them that fast.
We're at low rate production, at about 1,000 rifles per month. Can I interest you in license production? @GALM1
@Pilotmario 28,000,000
@PINK The AR-10 was made in response to a requirement for a more modern semi-automatic full-power rifle, but was passed over in favor of the M14. It never entered service in the United States military, although it did serve with other nations such as Portugal, Sudan, and Guatemala.
The AR-10 was reworked to accommodate the .223 Remington cartridge, and became the AR-15. With little modification, this rifle was accepted as M16, where it had many issues in the field. They soon upgraded it to the M16A1, largely solving many of these issues through the use of a new powder, adding a forward assist, chrome chamber and barrel, trinitum-illuminated frontsight, revised flash hider (technically a muzzle brake due to the fact it also serves to reduce recoil), and actually teaching them how to clean the damn things and issuing cleaning kits.
Yeah . . . I a. Preety sure the AR-10 came first. @Pilotmario
@Pilotmario Get rekt
