Main description
The Schlag-Tiger Ausf. B (meaning Strike Tiger) was a planned self-propelled arillery design of the Tiger II alongside the Geschützwagen Tiger, however no prototypes were built due to the end of World War 2 altogether, remaining as a blueprint design that was never built. It were to have a 15.cm sFH 43 cannon or the 30.5cm KwK L 16 as its main armament and a MG-34 on the commander's cupola. It can either be used as artilery or tank hunting with its cannon variants.
History
During June 1942, there were multiple submissions for an artilery-based version of the Tiger II, being the Geschützwagen Tiger and the Sturmpanzer Bär, however the Sturmpanzer Bär proposal lost, and the Geschützwagen Tiger proposal won. However Alkett chose to continue the design and improve the design even further, for example, the Schlagtiger design could use multiple cannons for 2 different purposes, being artillery and tank hunting, these were by the different cannon variants that were modeled in the design blueprints. Allett used Henschel design of the Tiger II for the base of the Schlag-Tiger, however the casemate was so big that the engine had to be moved to the front of the hull, eliminating the driver port and hull MG to add as much space as possible, as a result this would had likely added more difficulty, now that the vision port was now on the casemate, making driving the tank hard to do. When the Germans were being pushed back even further in World War II, being pressured by the Allies, the design was delayed to be produced due to the massive need of resources and the constant bombing of logistics and factories. Due to this delay, it was being pushed back to 1945, which was already too late since the Allies have won World War 2. The Schlag-Tiger is one of the many tank designs that would had never worked in reality, seeing that many late german tank designs were overkill, since producing more tanks was important at the time since the nation was getting more desperate of resources at the time. Another reason is that the gun and the casemate would had likely weighed so much that the vehicle's engine and transmission would be stressed due to the unbearable weight, reducing reliability as a result, and having a similar problem to the Jagdtiger.
