History: Designed in late 1952 as a replacement to the Shermans and Pershings, the T58A1E1 was more akin to a medium than a heavy. It weighed 45 tons and had a 1,350 horsepower engine, giving it a top speed close to sixty miles per hour. It had (effectively) around 260mm of frontal armor, 180mm on the sides, and 130mm at the rear. Its main armament was the same 120mm rifled cannon as on the experimental T57 Heavy, but with slight improvements. The turret front was up-armored from the T57, now sporting 230mm of armor, and 160mm on the sides and rear. The tank had a crew of four, which consisted of a driver, a gunner, a radio operator, and the commander. This particular tank, nicknamed the "Whistler's Baby", fought on the German Front from 1957 to 1962. From 1957 to 1960, it was commanded by Brandon "The Whistler" Ferguson, until he was killed in action on October 1. From October 7 until August 18, 1962, the tank was commanded by the world's first female tank commander, Elissabeth V. H. Warden. The WB was knocked out on August 18 by a group of four E-50 tanks, but not before it took out three of them first.
