BAE Whirlwind ADVANCE

Ok, so I was thinking about the life cycle of the venerable F-15; it has gone through; a lot of evolution and variations, with the latest being the F-15 SE "Silent Eagle". A reduced RADAR cross section F-15 with less range and less firepower, but greater survivability in the modern battle environment.

"Why not try such an upgrade / modernisation program on the good old Whirlwind?", I thought...

"And since 'stealth' is pretty much a moot point in SimplePlanes, why not go the whole hog and give it thrust vectoring too, shouldn't be too difficult...?", I also thought.

Well, it was. It was f"¤king difficult.

Let's face it - the Whirlwind's agility was never its strong suit - large war load and speed (especially at low level) - it was good at that - but turning corners? The Bismarck had a shorter turning time...

So - after a lot of trial and error and a gargantuan amount of digital aeroplane parts scattered around Wright Island, I finally managed to make her fly.

Ladies, Gents, I introduce the BAE Whirlwind ADVANCE.

A Variable Sweep, 3D Thrust Vectoring, Reduced RADAR Cross Section, Post Stall Maneuverable Air Superiority ultimate evolution of the BAE Whirlwind family.

I hope all of you who download her enjoy flying her as much as I enjoyed building her.

The controls are as follows;

AG1 + VTOL - Landing Flaps
AG2 - Not used (I had Jenkins the mechanic put a bit of tape over that button...)
AG3 - Nav lights
AG4 - Drag Chute
AG5/6/7 - taped over and disconnected
AG8 - Toggle Variable Geometry Wing Assembly (ON by default)

Have fun!

    Why not indeed! And I'm glad you did! Had so much fun I made the rookie error of not watching my fuel and ended up 'parking' multimillion pounds worth of tax payers money not at an airport!
