The XP-748 was an aircraft designed by Curtiss as an interceptor and was closely modeled after another prototype being developed by the Germans. Despite having access to the German prototype the XP-748 lacked in stability compared to its German counterpart. Due to time constraints it was decided that this prototype would be scraped and the allies would steal the German prototype. The German prototype would become known as the Curtiss P-750 Tomahawk II.
