DA-41 Swordfish I Monoracer
The DA-41 "Swordfish I" was designed, built, and raced by professional monoracer Nick Doohan Jr. The multiple championships, Olympic medals, and Worldrace Circuits won by Doohan in his DA-41 had dubbed his ship "The Crimson Ghost". It is the only one of it's type.
The DA-41 has a long and complicated, sometimes dramatic history. Doohan Junior had grown up in his grandfathers airshop, "Doohan Aeronautics", which had hosted many prototype aircraft that would later be sold to defense contractors such as Lockheed Martin, McDonnell Douglas, Boeing, Space X, NASA, and reportedly foreign airforces. After the mysterious disappearance of Doohan Senior in June 2037, young Doohan Junior had the time, resources, and the equipment to live up to his families notoriety.
Doohan had reportedly entered a deep depression for a few years without his Grandfather's guidance. At only the age of 19, he had cut nearly all business connections off from defense contractors by Feburary 2038 and had only kept his most trusted mechanics. Several board members and employee had left the Fortune 500 company as it's stocks plummeted.
Doohan had been in a financial wreck as he tried to compete for contracts for the Syndicate Wars. When the wars had ended when the Red Dragons took control, several companies had already been leagues ahead of D.A's aging weaponry. Isolated on Earth, in the last unsold shop of his failing empire, Nick Doohan Junior had an idea.
The XDS-12 Hydrogen-fueled Jet Engine. His remaining mechanics, board members, and friends pooled their remaining Woolongs for development and material costs. The XD had been unveiled on Mars at the Deimos festival and had immediately showed interest by civilian spacedesigner's to various governmental black projects. Before, the solid-state and nuclear engines had broken many distance records, Hydrogen engines were viewed as archaic and "something that should have gone with the Moon", but with Doohan's design, new avenues were opened to him, and to all others.
The Earthbased headquarters of Doohan Aeronautics had an almost immediate raid by the Red Dragon Syndicate after the Diemos festival, where blueprints and other prototypes were stolen. In the 23 hours after the raid, the Red Dragon's proxy company Yenrai Inc. had released the clone "B-236" Engine. Doohan had received a Subpoena for Copyright Infringement and settled out of court. He returned to Earth.
Meanwhile, the illegal Airracing circuit was still in it's infancy. Doohan Aeronautics had been turned it's purpose from designing military aeronautics into designing sporting planes under Doohan's leadership. Many theorize that Monoracing had been invented in the mountains of Wyoming, while Nick and his mechanics were testing their newly made planes. The subsequent release of the DA-12 in 2040, which is widely known as "The First Monoracer", introduced national interest in monoracing.
Monoracing, with "Mono" describing their hydrogen burning engines, had surely become an obsession to Doohan when he petitioned the Global Senate in 2054. With over 58 million signatures, the Senate made Monoracing legal and established a federally funded Championship of 13 races, placed all over the world. Showing an act of petition for such a widespread subculture, many began to speculate that Doohan had been unfairly criticized in the past for his ingenuity and simplicity of his designs. To this day it is still a mystery why he didn't fight the Red Dragons for his designs, but a widely held belief that one of his relatives had been an operator and he didn't want to risk his/her life.
The DA-41 is a highly modified DA-12 that was designed for Doohan himself to enter the first ever Worldrace Circuit. The race circuit was as follows-
1. Sierra 500: Won
2. Patagonia 1000: Lost
3. Lauterbrunnen 250: Won
4. Pompeii 250: Won
5. Fuji 400: Lost (didn't attend due to "Opinion of the Yakuza"
6. Rapanui 1500: Won
7. Annapurna 1200: Canceled due to the war on Titan.
Due to the involvements in current evens, all records of Doohan's life after his first Worldrace Circuits have been absconded from public record at this time, with exception of the following:
The DA-41 was phased out for the DA-125 Swordfish II, which has recently been seen near many modern catastrophic events, including the Fall of the Dragons.
