Dc4 (C54) initially designed to be a 4 engine enlarged Dc3 resulting in the Dc4E. this design proved to be impractical so was redesigned into final design the Dc4 that came to be. First flight in 1942 the Dc4 became an important long range transport in ww2. Would later be developed into the pressurized Dc6
