Another one of General Armstrong Victor's failures and evidence of his affection to the Hawk, it is a fairly decent aircraft, overshadowed by the Dart Interceptor. Essentially a standard Hawk Air Defense with JATO thrusters, it was envisioned as a stop-gap measure as the Dart was running into problems. However, by the time its problems were solved, the Dart was ready, and was a clearly superior aircraft. Depsite the fact a dedicated interceptor variant was shelved, JATO packs from the program were often fitted to Hawk Air Defense jets for use on short runways.
