USS America is the only destroyer in the United states class of ships (also the first) USS America started construction in 1946 as a battle crusier but they changed there mind to a destroyer and was finished and launched in 1949 (yes it took as long as the titanic) USS Americas first mission was to scout on Japanese bases but was spotted and had to retreat with minor damage Second mission in 1951 America joined the Koren war but only made a week into the war before it struck a mine and had to go under repairs for 3 years (1954) When she was recommissioned she had to escort USS North-Carolina (north carolina is done not in works) to repair docks this is where she met her fate The atago (a Japanese ship) fired 3 salvos of shells at the poor destroyer 2 salvos missed the third was fatal one shell hit the bridge another hit the gun and hit the rack making the whole ship explode and leap out of the water she sank in 4 minutes with a loss of 200 crew 400 lived
