The S-36 was loved by troops for its firepower but it 1944 it took heavy losses during street fighting. To give it some more protection against Panzerfausts and other German anti-tank weapons side skirts were added, which also protected against anti-tank rifles. Some S-36 crews also put sandbag armor on the front for additional protection. The skirt armor was fairly effective and the S-36 continued to fight on, supporting troops with its 200mm howitzer. AG1 to toggle rear machine gun, AG2 for headlight.
