Phoenix Industries AF-03 (Project 8121-02)

14.2k Griffon1  3.7 years ago

Project 8121-02, (or as it is referred to by the Accilian Air Force, the AF-03) is a multirole aircraft which is currently the only true 5th generation aircraft in use by the Republic of Accilia. This is the production version of Project 8121 and is seeing active duty in the Accilian Air Force

The stats on this plane compared to it's prototype are as follows:
Stats.jpg

Engines

Being a single engine aircraft, the AF-03 is somewhat lacking in the speed department. This is perhaps it's greatest weakness as most modern fighters can out-speed this plane. It does, however, incorporate a thrust vectoring nozzle in order to enhance the plane's maneuverability. The thrust vectoring nozzle and some weight adjustment allows for the use of post-stall maneuvers. The optimum PSM speed is around 200 mph IAS. Keep in mind, since there is only one engine, that you cannot control the roll axis in a stall

Agility

The AF-03, in terms of maneuverability, is quite standard, with the inclusion of all moving tail fins which provide pitch, roll, and trim control. The main wings necessitated the use of split ailerons in order to accommodate the weapons bays placed there. Similar to the split ailerons, the flaps are styled more like WWII flap designs for the same reason.

The vertical tail fins were completely reworked for greater stability, and the outward angle was scrapped. This is to save on mechanical complexity and reduce strain on the airframe.

Weaponry

Project 8121-02 boasts an impressive array of weaponry. Besides being armed with the standard MSLs, it comes armed with 6AAMs and 4AGMs which have been configured to fire one at a time, and two HPAA missiles. This extensive armament allows it to hold it's own in combat, even with it's slow speed. However, besides the MSLs and 4AGMs, it is quite underarmed for air-to-surface combat.

Reliability

Known issues with the airframe include an issue where when maneuvering too quickly, the aircraft goes into unrecoverable flat spins, loss of control, and what the pilots call the "death spiral." The name is self-explanatory.

Cost

In terms of cost, AF-03s go for around 85 million USD, and are able to be sold to any customers who submit an order.

Creator's Notes
- I tried successfully to put in PSMs, but it took away from stability and I lost many planes to the aforementioned death spiral.
- The SP weapon arsenal was expanded to include HPAA (High Powered Air-to-Air) missiles.
- Cockpit remains unchanged
- PSMs are pretty much limited to backflips, frontflips, and flatspins due to the fact it has no roll in PSM.
- 6AAMs and 4AGMs now fire independently to make them more useful.

I'm trying to make my posts more presentable by creating more of a style to them, by adding custom headers and thumbnails... Reason being that I hope to gain a little more credibility so that is at least seems like I've been playing for the 2 and a half years that I have.

@ShinyGemsBro I think redesignating it as a B variant makes sense. The two listed names, Project 8121 and AF-03, are the company's internal name and the Accilian Air Force designation, respectively.

Regardless, the ordered aircraft are on the assembly lines and will be shipping shortly.

Greetings and good day/afternoon/evening to you, Phoenix Industries.

Project 8121 has been a solid success for the 2nd Interdictor Squadron of the 51st Combat Wing. It has been officially designated as the F/A-81 Weevil and flies alongside our Growlers and Su-24E's during deepstrike operations against Darkcorp, the currently rising military aggressors our world, with no known country of affiliation.

For the defense of our world's freedom, order, and to strengthen our ties with your company and nation, we would like to purchase another 2,500 units of the AF-03 and have it designated as F/A-81B for the Tactical Forces Military's Air Force. We request to have it delivered to Fort Brimstone when ready.

On behalf of his highness King Emerald of the Land of Inamorta,

    General Snyder "Slyde" Ender
Commanding General of the Tactical Forces Military.

We serve the world, we serve our king. We are the Tactical Forces.

@Shootlegger that was an unintended side effect lol
maybe it's because of similar design queues?
