The ships design was based off a prewar design for a fast corvette that never entered service and was built in prefabricated sections similar to that of the Type XXI and XXIII submarines. In an event of an amphibious invasion, the MZ-2's primary targets would be LSTs and other lightly defended landing craft. Coupled with its 4 gas turbines and its multi-tier contra-rotating ducted propeller propulsion system, the ship could reach an astonishing speed of 152Km/h (94mph). 13 vessels were produced before Germany surrendered in October 1946.
