history
The benson model 34 hotrod is a high performance vehicle made back in 1934 as an affordable, yet fun vehicle, ready for, the road and the track. The model 34 came in a few veratients, the classic, the sport, and the track. The classic is, well, classic, featuring a 6 cylinder engine pulling 123hp, basic seating and interior with a listing price of $400. The sport has a bigger engine pulling 176hp, better styling and better exhaust and a listing priced $750. The track was the best option with a 192hp engine, racing seats, valkyrie exhaust, and a 6 speed trans, and starting at around $1000. During the mid 1950s these started showing up as hotrods, going down the strip at speeds up to 170mph. Benson saw the trend and re-created the benson model 34 and made the model 34 valkyrie, for the special exhaust it came with. The valkyrie was much more powerful with a 230hp engine, an 8 speed manual trans, improved suspension, and a revived interior. These were designed for the track and the strip, and succeeded in both, beating many records. It's time in the spotlight was short though as a new sports car came on the sceen, the Corvette. This car smashed any hope for the model 34, but it still selled good with around 12000 being sold nationwide.
