Used extensively during the first world war, the RB.5 is a single seat biplane built to fly fast over the trenches and report to command how a battle is going. Some pilots would fit guns onto their RB.5 and use to as a fighter plane. CC Productions saw a RB.5 fitted with Lewis machine gun, and got the idea of making a weaponized version (AB.5) which wouldn't enter service until 1917.
