PNV Voyager (PCV-1)

25.2k JohnnyBoythePilot  7.0 years ago

Yes, this is actually my first boat. (I can't believe how well this came out!)

PNV Voyager (PCV-1)

First commissioned in 1923.
(FYI "PNV" stands for "Pavelanian Naval Vessel" just like USS stands for "United States Ship" and HMS stands for "Her Majesty's Ship".)

This is the Voyager-Class aircraft carrier. It was the first aircraft carrier Pavelania has ever had let alone build. It was built by Remmington Shipbuilding and was powered by two Remmington Turbo-Electric Engines. It was mainly designed to carry the P1 Eagle fighter, which could carry at least 5. The Voyager-Class for it's time was quite fast, and had a few advanced features, many of which included a "Light Guidance Sytem" which helped pilots locate the ship at night and determine it's position for landing using light patterns similar to a modern-day airport. However the system required constant visual contact with the pilot and the lights, and the system didn't work very well in bad weather conditions. The carrier featured a single AA-gun station that used twin M2 Browning .50 cal guns for air defense. By 1930 the PNV Voyager and her sisterships were outfitted with a 40mm Bofors "Anti-Ship Defense" gun use to combat other ships. The Voyager-Class had the control room and cabin located at the Bow of the ship beneath the hard-top runway. While there was an island to the side of the hardtop, the island only contained stairs, a radio line, and steamstacks for venting out steam. PNV Voyager's sisterships included PNV Newport (Commissioned: 1925, Decommissioned: 1940) and PNV Riverville (Commissioned: 1928, Decommissioned: 1941). PNV Riverville was a stretched version of the Voyager. The Voyager class was eventually succeeded by the Dalton Class aircraft carrier by 1936.

The Voyager-Class saw much action during the early years of the North Atlantic War. The PNV Voyager saw success until it was heavily damaged by an enemy torpedo during a battle. The ship was towed back and was repaired, but shortly afterward it was decommissioned from active combat service due to the extensive damage. It was patched up as a training carrier and used until 1940 when heavier fighters started to be used instead of the light bi-planes, making the Voyager class obsolete as the ship could not take the weight of the heavy planes. There were 3 ships built for Pavelania and 2 built for it's allies.

I can't believe this is my first boat! (This is my first actual attempt at making any boats in simpleplanes, I've never attempted a boat before this ship!) While I'm not into sailing or ships in real life, I still find this ship really nice.

Landing Guidance System Light Patterns:

-Runway sides are lighted by steady white lights

-Touch down zone were the trap wires are, are marked with 4 white steady lights in a box-shape around the wires.

-2 flashing white strobes, and 2 steady green lights indicate the start of the runway. If you see these lights when landing you are on the correct approach.

-4 Flashing Red lights indicate the end of the runway. If you see 4 red flashing lights you are aproaching the wrong end of the carrier and need to go around.

NOTE: This ship requires the Bofors 57mm Gun mod and the Catapult mod both by [Gestour] and the Smoke Trails Mod by [NathanMikeska].

Activation Groups:

AG-1 = Main Engine System (Also turns on/opens steam stacks)
-Throttle = Powers Main 2 engines
-Move stick left/right (aka ailerons) = side bow thrusters
-Twist stick left/right (aka yaw) = steering (These can also be used as bow thrusters if used correctly with the standard bow thrusters)
-Pull Stick Back (aka back elevator) = Reverse Thruster

AG-2 = AA-Gun Unit
-Move Stick left/right (aka ailerons) = Moves AA Station left or right 180°
-Throttle Up/Down = Moves AA Guns Up 90° or Level

AG-3 = Anti-Ship Defense Unit
-VTOL up/down = Move Turret left or right 100°
-Trim up/down = Move Turret Gun Up or down 25°.

AG-4 = Aircraft Elevator (All you do is just press AG-4 to move the elevator up or down, no VTOL required)

AG-8 = Disables Gyro and All Lights on the ship (The Gyro mainly aids in steering the ship, and slightly increase stability)

Hope you all enjoy my first boat! My next ship will probably be a battleship.

Yea it is pretty massive. Before I started on this project I was looking at other WWII era-ish aircraft carriers and they were all relatively small. This is pretty big compared to Simpleplanes standards but in real life this is actually a really tiny carrier. Probably the size of a large fancy yacht.

I think the hull is fine, but it could use some more refinements. Yes when you first spawn on the water the hull will float for a few seconds. Wait and it will eventually settle fully into the water (Bottom hull colored red will be below water surface). The biggest issue I have with this boat is that it's too light. Even a small light bi-plane like my P1 Eagle makes the boat tilt if it's not exactly on center. The next aircraft carrier I make will definitely be much heavier. This issue doesn't matter that much for battleships since they don't have an aircraft landing on them and shifting weight around. Also thanks for pointing out my spelling errors. The Bofors 40mm was first introduced in 1930. I couldn't find any Bofors 40mm so I could only use the 57mm variant which is the mod by Gestour. Great gun, does a lot of damage to the USS beast and it's escorts.

I see, it's a nice boat for a first try but can go better. Like first improve your Hull.
