Voughts protoype for the US Army's super fighter program, this design was used a very experimental type of engine, it was a very early type turboprop engine, though this produced a signficant amount of power allowing the V-181 to accelerate well beyond 400mph, but being a very early version of turboprop it had plenty of problems it often broke down causing many emergency landings, not only that but the engine guzzeled fuel which limited it's combat range and therefore limiting it's effectiveness as a fighter
