The VBTP-MR Guarani (Viatura Armored Personnel Transport Medium on Wheels - Guarani) is a family of armored combat military vehicles, developed in Brazil by the Department of Science and Technology of the Brazilian Army, which contracted the Brazilian branch of the Italian automaker Iveco for its production.
The Guarani is based on the Iveco SuperAV 8x8 and was thought of as a successor to the traditional national vehicle EE-11 Urutu, being initially called the Urutu-3.
The Guarani strategic program aims to replace motorized infantry with mechanized infantry and modernize mechanized cavalry.
In 2020, a new stage of the program was started, with the objective of creating the 8x8 version of the vehicle, called VBR – MR 8X8.
