It might seems like a collection of jet engines, but there is (some) science behind it.. You have to carry just the right amount of fuel to fuel the jets for the speed record run, minimise weight and place the jet engines in such a way that drag is reduced but they can also breath properly. Otherwise they underperform and you might need to use air inlets that also increase weight and drag.
