27.8k TheFlightGuySP  2.5 years ago

Metric and nautical conversions not included!
Overview: The A500 "Stratoglider" is an experimental high-altitude glider, capable of exceeding 90,000ft. It features the B500 "Protolaunch 1" and a detachable solid rocket booster. It has achieved a maximum altitude of about 130,000ft.

FLIGHT CHARACTERISTICS

Maximum Airspeeds (TAS): 500mph (Below 50,000ft), 550mph (50,000-75,000ft), 600mph (>75,000ft).
Cruise Altitude: 75,000-100,000ft.
Maximum Altitude: 130,000ft.
Controls: Activate1: Glider Detach. Activate2: Booster Activation. Activate3: Booster Detach. VTOL: Glider Flaps. Trim: Tow Plane Pitch Control.

FLIGHT INSTRUCTIONS

Before takeoff, set the trim to full up, flaps should be at zero by default. To takeoff, set the throttle to 25%, and wait until about 150mph for the Protolaunch to pitch up (there should be no need to use the glider pitch controls). Adjust trim as necessary, but do not let the pitch angle exceed 45 degrees. Roll the two aircraft as needed. When the two aircraft are at about 50,000ft, detach the glider from the tow plane, and then activate the rocket booster. For booster climb, pitch the glider up between 30 degrees and 45 degrees. Level off at your desired cruise altitude, then detach the booster. For descent, pitch the aircraft down as needed, and apply airbrakes as needed. To land, flaps should be fully lowered, and the airspeed should be below 40mph.

NOTES

I recommend using IAS below 10,000ft, and TAS/GS above 10,000ft. I also recommend that you lightly tap the brakes while moving on the ground to avoid a nose collision.
