English Electric Victorious 5.0

233k RamboJutter  5.8 years ago

AG1 to open bomb bay doors and activate weapons, AG2 to close undercarriage doors, VTOL for airbrakes.

With the success of the V-Bomber projects (Vulcan, Victor and Valiant) EE where tasked with designing a further evolution of the project building on the UK's ability to deliver nuclear weapons to specific targets in the USSR (and return if possible).

Due to the design requirements the aircraft was designed to be large enough to carry multiple nuclear free fall bombs (well Boom 50s scaled up), multiple cruise missiles and additional unguided smaller free fall bombs (boom 25s scaled up again for more boom!) while carrying enough fuel to reach the target and return.

The aircraft built on the knowledge gained from the previous v-force aircraft and captured german technology from designers such as Horten and Gotha. The plane, in a similar way as the HO-229 and YB-49 accidentally had elements of stealth technology implemented in the desing as the flying wing has a low radar cross section. This bomber went on to be the mainstay of RAF bomber command and a competitor to the American B2 program.

It weighs a similar amount to the B2 so careful on ground handling as the SP wheel physics are close to their limits.

If you want to have some fun with it, there is a lozenge shaped fus piece in the center of the build which has most of the weight in it, if you remove that this handles like a fighter!

    Wow.
Dodged 4 missiles at 850 mph with a flying wing.
Most of these things freak out and spin uncontrollably.

Yeah for sure I have also used some of your building techniques on some of my designs so thanks for making such great aircraft

@jaredgamer good :) if your gentle you can land when it's heavy as well, I do it all the time, the physics are annoying on heavy builds. It's good fun when it's light though isn't it

@RamboJutter thanks for the tip I tried it and I can land it without the wheels breaking =)

@LiamW thanks :) I do like the intake blending into the wing shape, and I'm also over the moon with the overall wing shape where it is an aerofoil of sorts. The problem area in my eyes is similar to your comment, directly in front of the intake it's flat unlike the rest of the build and not a very nice shape, I was going to dish it out which would have assisted in the airflow problem but it was causing me problems... Thanks for the comment and upvote btw

@jaredgamer yep, I mentioned that in the description. Sp wheel physics I'm afraid, it's to do with tyecweight of the aircraft, wheels have a built in suspension of sorts that can't be turned off and it's that that moves them on the axle. Remove the weight block I also mentioned in the description which fixes it (but makes it weigh about 30000lbs which isn't realistic for it's size).

Yo great design but there is one issue the rear landing gear wheels keep disconnecting from the landing gear axle

Normally I look at popular planes on this site and think about how incredibly poor the aerodynamic design is (not that it matters in SP so I don’t comment on it) but this thing is actually pretty damn good. The only potential issue I can think of is that pulling up hard at high speed could cut airflow to the engines but that isn’t too bad for a bomber.

@BlackhattAircraft it's getting to be my specialty :) it's just a bit of planning, a few panels and a lot of manoevering of panels into place. Thanks for the votes and comments, have you seen my b57 canberra? That has some awesome Vietnam camo on it
