The owl mk.iib and c would replace the owl mk.ib in late may 1941, the mk.IIB had an improved armament now including two 20mm cannons in the nose along with the original armament of 4 7.7mm guns, the development of the mk.ii would start in 1938 but without funding from the ministry of defence its development couldn’t properly start till 1940 and would not be complete till may 1941, the new fighter would also include a canopy, pilots had understandably complained about the lack of a cockpit canopy and therefore the designer decided that the mk.ii would include a cockpit canopy along with the other improvements.
