9K31 Strela-1
So the video was finished faster than I expected so here is the 9P31 launch vehicle as from the 9K31 Mobile SAM system, the first of 6 main posts as teased on my latest BRDM-2 post.
Description
The 9K31 Strela-1 (English: arrow) is a highly mobile, short-range, low altitude infra-red guided surface-to-air missile system developed by the Soviet Union, the system consists of a BRDM-2 amphibious armored vehicle chassis with it's belly wheels removed and is equipped with two pairs of ready-to-fire 9M31 missiles in boxes atop a very narrow turret, the missiles can be folded to the back of the vehicle for transport and can be deployed quickly if need be.
The missile mounted on this build is the much improved 9M31M missile, which extends the range of the previous design from 4.2km to 8km, this missiles are known as the Strela-1M (US DoD designation SA-9B "Gaskin-Mod1") and entered service in 1970. The missiles on this build are also fully modeled.
This vehicle, just as the BRDM-2, still remains in service to this day, however Strela-1s have been largely replaced by the much more sophisticated 9K35 Strela-10s and more portable and advanced man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS).
