While landing, don't turn off the Vtol , but stop the main engine.
The plane is quite sturdy and can survive after facing its nose in earth on less then 100 mph. Try not to hit the main tank, else a cute booom can occur.
Don't turn off the takeoff engine before reachind 250 mph.
