BACKGROUND

The J-20S (dual seat version of the J-20) is the world's first dual seat fifth generation fighter jet, developed by the Aviation Industry Corporation of China. It is based on the J-20 single seater version and has been improved by adding a second cockpit, forming a tandem dual seater layout
Background and R&D history
The J-20S made its first test flight in July 2022 and has completed most of its development and test flight processes. It may have entered the stage of small-scale production and delivery for military trials. This innovative design has made China the only country in the world to successfully develop a dual seat fifth generation aircraft.
Technical features and performance parameters
The J-20S has the following technical features and performance parameters:
Stealth performance: By optimizing the cabin shape and electromagnetic compatibility design, it maintains a stealth effect comparable to the single seat version.
Avionics system: equipped with advanced avionics radar system, capable of accurately detecting and identifying targets in complex electromagnetic environments.
Power system: The powerful power system endows the J-20S with excellent flight performance, capable of handling high-speed cruising and difficult maneuvering maneuvers.
Multi purpose combat capability: capable of performing various tasks such as air superiority, ground attack, and drone command, significantly enhancing combat effectiveness.
Combat applications and future prospects
The uniqueness of the J-20S lies in its collaborative combat capability with unmanned aerial vehicles. Rear seat pilots can command drone swarms to perform reconnaissance, jamming, and attack tasks, forming a closely coordinated combat system that greatly expands the scope of operations and enhances combat effectiveness. This mode of coordinated combat between manned and unmanned aerial vehicles marks a significant change in the air combat mode, giving the Chinese Air Force an advantage in future air combat.
