The AH-60, also called simply "Harpía", is a gunship helicopter developed by the Colombian Air Force, Elbit Systems and Sikorsky Aircraft based on the UH-60L Black Hawk. It is a result of the need of the Colombian Air Force to have a helicopter that stood out for being able to perform combat tasks and that could also be occasionally used as a utility helicopter, the Arpía is essentially a UH-60L to which more equipment and weapons have been added both internally and externally. The platforms were received by the Colombian Air Force in two batches in 1999 and 2002 respectively.

The UH-60L arrived in Colombia in 1991 with the belief that they could only be used for transportation, since their structure was designed to fulfill this mission. However, due to the need that the Colombian Air Force experienced to expand the firepower of its helicopters and due to the restriction that the United States imposes on Latin America for the sale of sophisticated weapons, Colombia could hardly have accessed the artillery version of the Blackhawk, but the ingenuity and capacity of the technicians of the FAC put the US in front of an irreversible situation; In this way, advice was obtained to achieve a second version with better capabilities. This is how the investigation began in June 1995, taking as a starting point the analysis of the semi-planes where the auxiliary fuel tanks are located, reaching conclusions about the possibility of installing weapons in them. Thus, a series of engineering and technical studies continued on the structure of the UH 60L that yielded excellent results, allowing the adaptation of artillery composed of machine guns and rockets on the supports and underwing air-to-ground bombs.
