Designed as a light air superiority fighter for export by the Mikoyan Gurevich design bureau after they obtained an unknown amount of F-5C's from Iran in the early 1980s. The Mig-28 was exported to many customers in the 80s, most notably that one ill-defined nation from Top Gun. Despite the good speed and maneuverability of the Mig-28, most Soviet-Allied countries instead opted for the Mig-29 and Su-27 over the Mig-28. The Mig-28 is still operated by the IDNAF to this day despite some believing it is obsolete.
