Messerschmitt Me P.1199 ''Drache''
Notes
- I worked for a while to try to get it to not veer off course when taking off and landing. It's mostly fixed now thanks to the help of F-104DeathTrap, but it still isn't perfect, so take caution when landing and taking off.
- Many thanks to the SPMC for feedback, flight testing, and in general for helping out with this build.
History
Designed in late 1944 as a replacement for the Dornier series of night fighters/heavy interceptors, Messerschmitt's proposed "Drache," or "Dragon," would have been a foreboding adversary, had it ever reached large-scale production. The Drache sat a crew of three in a spacious cockpit, with the third crew member facing rearwards and operating controls for the two missiles mounted underneath. The aircraft was powered by two Junkers Jumo 101 turbojets and an additional two BMW rocket motors mounted above the jet engines. The exhaust from the rocket motors gave the airplane its nickname. The excess exhaust fumes from the rockets were funneled through a tube on the belly of the aircraft at the rear. The aircraft was also equipped with a radar dish in the nose for night-fighting sorties (on this model, the radar dish moves with pitch and roll). Only two test aircraft were ever built, with one being destroyed in a crash in early 1945. The remaining P.1199 was captured by American forces at the end of the war in Europe, and after extensive testing was sent to a warehouse, where it currently awaits restoration.
Armament
The P.1199 would have been very heavily armed. The standard loadout would have been:
- Two 20mm cannons in the nose
- Two 30mm cannons in the nose
- Two 20mm cannons firing upwards
- Two 30mm cannons firing upwards
- The aircraft could also carry two experimental X25 Feuervogel (Firebird) Air-To-Air missiles. Only dummies were built to test aircraft performance with the missiles equipped (missiles work on this model)
Controls
- Action Group 8: Toggle nose-mounted cannons
- Action Group 7: Toggle upwards-firing cannons
- Action Group 6: Toggle lights
- Trim: Trim
- VTOL Down: Flaps

Beautiful plane! But can you make tank "Chimera" from the world of tanks compatible with simple planes 1.8?
Are we going to see anything else like this? Or is this the end of @DestinyAviation?
@RussianAce I may have been gone from the site for too long
