Introduced in 1957 as a Generation two Air superiority carrier based aircraft, the J10F (re-designated as CF-3) is a twin engined supersonic aircraft with some of the first functional afterburners of its time. the Maelstrom II quickly became a favorite for pilots of the era as it yielded near unparalleled speed, reliable framework, and impressive responsiveness, a rarity in Gen 1 Iosian Jets. The Maelstrom II was also noted for the fastest aircraft and last aircraft to use guns as its primary weaponry (later variants had extra pylons for a larger payload) and was known to pilots as "The last Gunslinger". The Maelstrom II initially was conceived as a high speed bomber that was capable to outpacing Hon Kain's anti-air defenses, however during initial flights, the aircraft proved to be much more capable of a Fighter Role with its surprisingly good maneuverability.

Despite the J10F having impressive combat capabilities, the aircraft was not without its faults, its most noticable - landing; the Maelstrom II's size and speed proved exceptionally dangerous when attempting carrier landings. initally the aicraft was almost impossible to land on the smaller carriers used during the Second Global war, however as the sizes increased, the Maelstrom was more frequently used as it became reliable in landings.

The CF-3 was eventually retired in 2003 where it was used as a reconnaissance aircraft in Namalla, currently, out of the 2,250 aircraft made, 700 remain in flyable condition, mostly as target drones and civilian use.

The CF-3R was a reconnaissance variant of the Maelstrom II, the Silent Storm as it was named, set the highest altitude record of the 50's with a max altitude of 57,760 feet. The CF-3R was the most used variant of the CF-3 series and eventually was phased out by UAV drones and much faster manned reconnaissance aircraft.
