Korean War Specifications Challenge! [CLOSED]
Background
In late 1950, the Korean Peninsula was in chaos. Following the storm that the end of the 2nd World War brought, with the Soviet Invasion of Manchuria, and the fall of the Japanese Empire, China was in a Civil War for another 4 years. By 1948, Mao took what was left of the former Nationalist Kuomintang, who fled to the Japanese colonial holding from the remains of the once Manchu Qing Empire. With the Nationalists held, and the Communists in control of the mainland, the Korean Question still had yet to be answered
In 1950, the Chinese government sponsored a coup in the north, causing soldiers to invade from the north to Seoul, and almost reached Busan. Busan is where the UN and Communists met head-on, and the Democratic nations sent support from there, formally beginning the fight against the DPR Koreans.
This challenge, I hope, will inspire creativity and innovation. You may choose either to support the Communists, or the UN in the air. The choice is yours. YOu can pick any nation that fought, but the one thing is... no replicas. The purpose of this challenge is to find a new way, with the technology of the time, to be able to fight in this war.
~Nationalists~
It is early 1951, and the Communists have almost defeated the Nationalists, and it is only up to us, the United Nations Security Council Resolution 82 has been passed and allows us to interfere in the war. We need new aircraft that can obliterate the enemy until the United States can fully mobilize and finish the push to Pyongyang, or more likely an indeterminate stalemate. Nonetheless, the war must be won and the Communists must be defeated. Your nation/company's specifications are below. Defend Democracy!
European NATO nations, United States (5th Air Force is really interesting), the Republic of Korea Air Force
*Note, there were several more nations, like Australia, Ethiopia, and most importantly Japan and the Phillippines, but they did not use an air force during the war, they supported through ground forces, so the applications to this challenge should be the nations above, but if you make say an Ethiopian aircraft that was designed, I will look into it, but it should 100% be a nation that historically participated in the war
Also, before anyone asks, I will allow the Republic of China's air force, and therefore you can build Taiwanese aircraft and such. Please no arguing or politics in the comments. I will report and probably say mean things back and I don't want to have to do that. Be fair, this is a challenge
~Communists~
The year is 1951, and our beloved Kim Jong-Il is going to claim our land and finally unite the Koreans under our true government. With the support of the Chinese and the tsunami of the Soviets, what is stopping us? All we need is new technology that can overpower the enemy and we will win this war! Only one major city left and the bloody imperialists will be eradicated from our land!
People's Liberation Army Air Force, Soviet Air Forces, Korean People's Army Air Force
The Task at Hand
Your goal is to build a plane, and I will have categories that have some specifications, but they are going to be far looser this time, as the intention is to learn the extent of the technology at the time, much like how the Spanish Civil War aided the German, Italian, and Soviet militaries before the Second World War.
Let's get started!
Fighter
- At least 6 .50 calibre, or 4 20mm, but there is no limit... just be realistic. If it is a later aircraft, it should have at least a few guns, or at the very very least a 20 mm rotary cannon
- Can also have bombs, and rockets, but minimal, if there is a bomb bay, I will consider it a Light Bomber
- Can be powered by a jet or a prop. If powered by a jet, it can be a max of 2nd generation, meaning weak afterburner and slightly stronger mil power, or 1st generation, meaning a lugging beast lol. Propeller is more likely though
- Can have missiles, but only on 2nd generation aircraft, and it should be the Guardian. No ATG for this class
Close Air Support/Light Bomber
- Should have a bunch of hardpoints for missiles, bombs, rockets, gun pods
- Can carry one nuclear bomb
- Can be prop or jet, which it can have just one, but preferably 2 minimum
- Can have a bomb bay if it is on the bigger side
Bomber
- Most bombers of this war were giant recon planes, or small bombers, take this to note
- Can have one or two or more idrc bomb bays, of any size
- Should be able to break a bunch of stuff
- Can carry up to two nuclear bombs, or a button of conventional bombs
- Defensive and offensive armament is allowed
- Can be jet powered or prop powered, like everything else, it can be anything propulsion-wise
General Rules
- Mixed Propulsion is allowed
- Supersonic is allowed only at very low amounts and only with pure jet aircraft with afterburning, watch your speed, I will be testing
- Supersonic dives are exempt ^^
- No stealing other's builds
- Must be a newly-made aircraft by YOU
- XML and FineTuner allowed
- Minimum part count 100
- Have fun!
Grading Scale
TBD
Good Luck y'all!

June 25th
*it'll probably be extended to July 1st or so

last message from SOT was one month ago
It’s Joever
I have stuff to do today, so when I get back home, I'll release the results and give out the rewards by tonight or tomorrow
@Jabuticaba23 I am terribly sorry, life has been crazy lol. I will get onto it asap, in fact, I'm going to have it done by tonight, hopefully. Terribly sorry m8
Hey @LieutenantSOT, when will you post the results?
@LieutenantSOT It’s ok, hope you sort things out. I don’t think I’m gonna post the second plane, as it’s very incomplete and I don’t have the motivation to finish it in time, but I think the Plunderer is enough anyway
@Jabuticaba23 hey no worries man!
Crap. I just noticed that there are successors, I never got the notification lol. Sorry. My life has been crazy lately
Hey @LieutenantSOT ! Like with the last challenge, I plan on making 2 planes, however, I'm having quite a lot of delays, so my apologies if I can't submit my entries on time or if they end up rushed
@Michiganstatepolice sick!
@Jabuticaba23 yeah that's okay, man!
Hey @LieutenantSOT, is it okay if I use a post-war livery? I’m making an american aircraft in use by the french (because I was too lazy to make US markings), which didn’t use the aircraft until after the war
@LieutenantSOT ok, I'm useing a bfe300 as the drive engine with lowered power and fuel consumption, because of its realistic performance at high altitudes
@Dogedogebread13 lmao
@LieutenantSOT
Heym stahp mkiang fuin off mef
@Michiganstatepolice ooh okay!! When you publish your plane, given that it is one of those, just explain that in your description in detail and I'll accept it! I make compromises as a simple rulebook cannot define everything
@Dogedogebread13 you're welmskome
@LieutenantSOT
Thamsk
@Dogedogebread13 yeah!
@LieutenantSOT
Can it be any country in NATO
@LieutenantSOT forgot to mention there where some mildly super cruising aircraft in the 1950s
@LieutenantSOT No prob
And I'll probably make an entry as it's been a long time and I'm finishing my current project
@Dragoranos you are completely correct after some research
@Dragoranos ofc!!
.
Oh! And the other point I forgot about
Sorry! I didn't notice you had a challenge out. I would normally remove mine to be fair, as yours was posted first, but, mine isn't like yours. Mine emphasizes designing their own plane with categories and it's like my last challenge, whereas yours is Korean War in general
@LieutenantSOT Thank you!
@Dragoranos actually, you are entirely true on a number of levels, but there are things that are incorrect
.
The Sidewinder missile was in development (first generation infrared, very bad and you needed to hold a lock) and the Korean war tested it. Both sides used basic missiles from ships and planes alike to test them. Like I said in the description, the Korean war was more of a proxy war (albeit being a bloody one) used to test technology, much like the Spanish Civil war was
.
However, you are also correct. The MiG 19 and F-104 were second generation fighters, however, they were not developed until 1954, a year after the Korean was. The Korean war saw early transonic aircraft, like the MiG 17, however, were tested and used, even if in limited numbers during this war, and so your point does stand on that bit, but like on my previous challenge, I make tons of exceptions given you can back them up, and preferably with quality. But this challenge is the prop planes of the Second World War, early Turboprops, 1st generation jets, and very very early 2nd generation aircraft. I allow the Guardian because it is the most realistic to missiles of the time, kinda. If you modify the missiles to be more realistic, I am more than happy to grant extra points if it is more realistic. But yes, you are correct. But this challenge is not for gen 3 aircraft
@C47skytrain
What do you mean?
