Background

The RNV-203 program was one which hoped to crate a lightweight hull capable of fitting on different turrets for different specialized roles in the 1960’s, in order to make production of new vehicles faster, and more cost efficient. The M1ELMBT (Early light Main Battle Tank) variant was specifically made to counter other tanks and support infantry, using a simple round turret, and being armed with an 100mm ATT/90 Anti tank gun. The tank also has a coaxial machine gun, and another on the commander’s hatch, which could be remote controlled, in order to deal with infantry and lightly armored targets. The M1 was the most produced variant out of the 3, with around 600 being made.
