Short Mayo Composite
This is a rather unorthodox concept I stumbled upon. It was know a plane could fly with more weight than it could take off with so hence this system. The idea was the Maia would have a huge amount of fuel onboard to cruise to the various far flung reaches of empire. The smaller Mercury would assist it to take off, 'peel' off in flight and then return to port. My attempts here have recreated this concept however there are some issues that remain unresolved. Take off is achieved around 140mph, AG1 detaches the piggyback plane and this is the hard part. You need a fair amount of downwards pitch to get it to detach without clipping the inboard props on the Maia. This also unbalances the Maia and it tends to have unfavourable outcomes. I thought it was a rather neat concept that should be seen in SP!

Cheers @GhostHTX Definitely a certain genre we seem to focus on that's for sure! Nice job with the harrier family which you represented so well - VTOL is definitely beyond my scope and abilities!
Christ almighty - browsing through your post history is like looking at my "to do list" - except you've already done it! Very nice.
I agree @ACMECo1940 and a total pain to try to get working on sp! Thanks for your interest!
Interesting concept
