Cold War Challenge By WinsWings
Introduction:
The Dassault Mirage F1EE is an upgraded export variant of the Mirage F1, a French single-engined, single tail, 3rd generation jet fighter and attack aircraft, designed by Dassault Aviation. This variant improves the F1's capability by enhancing it's air to air and air to ground capabilities, such example being able to carry the new Super 530Fs. It also is outfitted with a refuel probe to increase it's range.
History:
The Mirage F1 was more or less the result of Dassault's testing shenanigans. The Mirage F2, which was based off of the Mirage III served as a VTOL technology demonstrator. However, they quickly realize that the Mirage F2's design was quite capable for a fighter. Both Dassault and the French Air Force (AAE) quickly took interest with this design, along with a smaller variation of the Mirage F2, Mirage F3, with the AAE being interested in adopting it into a Fighter-Bomber design.
During this time however, Dassault and the AAE was participating in a joint effort with Britain to produce a fighter adopting a swing wing design. With their 3 currently ongoing projects, this could be a major issue for developing a new fighter. But these programs were cancelled after some time, and Dassault found themselves with less workload. So they started designing the Mirage F1.
The Mirage F1 was similarly sized with it's predecessors. Unlike their predecessors however, the Mirage F1 had a swept wing design and a conventional tail, like that on the Mirage F2. While it had a smaller wing area than it's predecessor, it proved to increase the design's range and maneuverability compared to it's predecessors.
The first prototype flew in 23rd of December 1966. It was delayed due to short fundings. Alas, the first prototype was lost in May of 1967, due to loss of control over aerodynamic flutter. Regardless, it was tested, improved, and approved into adoption.
