HSR Challenge (cancelled)
The year was 1964 and a new form of travel was going to revolutionize transport. In that year Japan was going to open a new railway service unlike anything before it. A foolish move according to most people, unfortunately for them, the service in question was ”The Shinkansen” , the first ever High Speed Train service in the world which was going to prove that the train wasn’t going to disappear any time soon.
Today, as a follow-up for my “Streamliner Challenge”, I’m introducing the “High Speed Rail Challenge”!
-What is HSR?
Definition from Wikipedia:
High-speed rail (HSR) is a type of rail system that runs significantly faster than traditional rail, using an integrated system of specialised rolling stock and dedicated tracks. While there is no single standard that applies worldwide, lines built to handle speeds above 250 km/h (155 mph) or upgraded lines in excess of 200 km/h (124 mph) are widely considered to be high-speed.
My (short) definition:
Any train service that regularly operates at speeds greater than 200km/h (124mph)
-The almighty rules
-1. the train needs to be a trainset composed by a minimum of 3 cars, if you want a locomotive powered train you only need 1 but it depends on how many locos you have (1 locomotive at 1 end= Minimum 2 coaches, 1 locomotive at each end= Minimum 1 coach, 1 locomotive and 1 control car= Minimum 1 coach)
-2. the train must fit the definition in terms of performance so it must have a top speed above 200 km/h and it must be at least semi-realistic (for example, as much as I would love it, steam trains aren’t allowed)
-3. your build must be original, no modifying of someone else's build
-4. both fictionals and replicas are allowed but as always i encourage making a fictional build
-5. the description must have a "Lore"/"Description" section where you describe the history of the model whether the train being fictional or a replica.
-6. the part number must be between 100 and 3000
-7. MUST BE A SUCCESSOR so download this and make the train with the cockpit that comes with it.
-8. one entry per player. BUT if your entry gets disqualified i will allow you to modify it or build a new one.
-9. the train itself needs to be built only with XML and it must work on either of the following mods:
SPR-Map Plugin
destroyerP's Railway Mod
Railway mod
(If you can't download these mods i'll make an exception)
-The judjement criteria
all of the points I list here will have a score that changes based on the design being fictional or a replica. I'll give your train a score both on a 0/100 scale and on a 0/10 scale once I announce the winners.
- Look: does it look like a sleek bullet train or a random metro-train with a comically high speed?
score: (0/25 fictional) (0/25 replica) - performance: how fun is it to drive?
score: (0/25 fictional) (0/25 replica) - level of detail: how much detail went in the design?
score: (0/25 fictional) (0/40 replica) - Creativity: Does it have a special propulsion system like maglev? Any special feature like a Tilting mechanism?
score: (0/10 fictional) (0/10 replica) - (fictional only) lore quality: How much thought went into the fictional lore? score: (0/15 fictional)
(keep in mind that: the higher the max score per point, the harsher i'll be on it)
-The juicy prizes
1° place= 30 upvotes
2nd place= 20 upvotes
3rd place= 10 upvotes
partecipation prize= 1 upvote and if possible 1 spotlight
-Deadline
you have time until the 23rd of April 2023 (around 3 months)
Hope you’ll join, have fun and let’s build :)

Intresting
@airlinerbuilder the horrors of (lore)
yeah sure why not
@TheTomatoLover i will allow anything that respects the rules. So if you manage to make something simple that still respects them then go ahead.
I’m really bad at building, would you allow a low quality joke train? Only if it has l o r e and functionality right?
@Bobyo "ha ha bullet train go whoooosh"
