=G2a2-D1
Controls:
AG1 + VTOL: Airbreaks and flaps
AG2: Deploy arresting hook
AG3: Folding wings
AG7: Engage gyro stabilizers
Ordinance:
- (gun) Nose mounted 20mm Vulcan
- (Interceptor) Laser guided bombs (Missile engine provides no thrust, and it is assume that a friendly unit is lasering the target so lock on is instant)
- (Inferno) Fire and forget guided missile x6
- (Guardian) Fast Lock on semiactive guided missile x6
Background (fictional):
G2a started as a failed project from the Yagura Heavy Industries (YHI). It did not achieve the expected characteristics. But when the military was looking for a bomber for the carriers, they chose G2a that was designed more than a decade ago. Modernized and redesigned with more advanced technology and manufacturing process, the airframe proved to be capable of delivering what the military was looking for: a compact lightweight platform that can carry decent amount of weaponry.
The airframe was redesigned to feature a folding wing, along with improved landing gear and arresting hook systems to make the plane carrier operational. The major short coming of the plane, range, was not a big concern due to the elasticity of operating from a carrier instead of a land base.
G2a entered service in 1963. However, with the rise of the new generation fighter-bombers, the need for a dedicated bomber/attacker aircraft onboard the carriers is soon gone. Unfortunately, G2a's bomb bay was too weirdly shaped for it to be transferred into a carrier based cargo plane role, so only a few years later, G2a ended its service. Only a dozen G2a was built before the new multirole fighters took its place.
