The de Havilland DH.100 Vampire was the second jet aircraft commissioned by the British Royal Air Force during World War II , the first being the Gloster Meteor , although it did not see combat in that conflict. The Vampire served in RAF frontline squadrons until 1955, as well as being used in numerous countries. Almost 4,400 units were built, a quarter of which were under license.
