You wouldn't believe this if I said it dead-faced; a propeller plane beat El Diablo! The Hyperveloce X.3 is a mixed-power high-speed racing aircraft. Why mixed power? Simple; propellers produce a massive amount of thrust, however, their thrust drops off rapidly as you appproach Mach 1. Jets produce less initial thrust, but keep the same amount of thrust for their entire speed range. Thus, for the Hyperveloce X.3, having the best of both worlds was the priority. Might not be the fastest in a straight line, but it'll sure beat anything in those tight turning races and in vertical climbing, thanks to the low-speed thrust provided by the prop.
