When the old Hellcats became outdated in the late 1940's, the US Navy needed a new fighter to replace them. Grumman, Lockheed Martin, and even Bell came up with ideas for the new fighter, but Boeing's idea came out as number one: the P-42 Fighterhawk. Even though it had speeds up to 380mph, it traded speed for agility. Armed with 4 20mm cannons, the P-42 could easily tear apart enemy aircraft. Plans for mass production of this aircraft have already begun.
