Somehow, the landing gear was broken...
A lead plane for heavy bombers like the QC-6 Inferos, the Morale leader is a small fighter jet designed for long range operations to "lead" bombers to a city designated for bombing.
Basically, the Morale leader will guide a formation of around a hundred to a thousand heavy bombers to a city. Once over the city, the morale leader drops its bombs and starts its smoke trail to tell the other bombers to drop their payloads.
