In 2009, Airasia X (a subsidiary of Airasia that uses widebody jets) Leased 2 a340-300s that were previously owned by Air Canada. This decision was made to extend more flights to Europe like London Stansted, London Gatwick and Paris Orly while also serving other high demand places like Perth. Airasia x had used the a340s from 2009 and retired them in 2015 aswell as their flights to the EU.
To this day, Airasia X is the first and only A340 operator in Malaysia
