Messerschmitt Bf-110 C-1"Zerstörer"
[About Messerschmitt Bf-110 C-1]
Wikipedia
The Messerschmitt Bf-110 was a twin-engine, double-seat fighter operated by the German Luftwaffe during World War II.
In 1934, the Luftwaffe requested the development of a heavy fighter. The Luftwaffe wanted a versatile fighter that could fly long distances accompanied by bombers and could also be used for ground attacks. The specifications called for two 20mm machine guns, a swivel machine gun, and a bomb bay.
Focke-Wulf, Henschel, and Bavarian Aircraft Manufacturing (later Messerschmitt) responded to this request and proceeded to develop a prototype. Focke-Wulf and Henschel produced prototypes that met the Luftwaffe's requirements. However, Bavarian Aircraft Manufacturing was different. The designer, Willi Messerschmitt, half disregarded the Luftwaffe's requirements.
He created a prototype based on what he considered a good concept: the smallest fuselage with the most powerful engine, a design concept that was similar to that of the Bf-109. The prototype made its first flight in 1936.
The prototype was not equipped with a bomb bay, had only a simple turning machine gun, and was one size smaller than the prototypes of other companies.
The Bf-110 did not meet the required specifications, and there was controversy within the Luftwaffe as to whether or not it should be adopted. However, Messerschmitt used his political power to get the Luftwaffe to decide to adopt the Bf-110 as the official model.
Although the Bf-110 did not meet the specifications required by the Luftwaffe, its performance was excellent, and it was deployed in World War II, which broke out in 1939, and its high-speed performance was utilized to great effect in hit-and-run tactics. Because of its excellence, it is said that it was the favorite of Air Minister Hermann Göring.
However, in the Battle of Britain, the Bf-110 lost its reputation as a fighter. Accompanied by bombers, the Bf-110 was forbidden to leave the bombers it was escorting, and its signature hit-and-run tactics were blocked. In addition, the Royal Air Force fighters were superior. The Spitfires deployed in the Battle of Britain were fighters with high combat performance, and the Bf-110, a slow twin-engine fighter, was unable to compete and many of its planes were shot down.
Although the Bf-110 lost its reputation as a fighter, it was used for a variety of missions, including fighter-bomber missions, due to its high versatility. Because of its ample onboard capacity, the Bf-110 was also used as a night bomber with radar equipment. By the end of the war, a total of 5,700 Bf-110s were produced, including various derivatives.
[About the work]
The cockpit is roughly reproduced.
I have used PlanariaLab's "SP Label Converter" to create a Balkenkreuz. Thank you very much.
I have not verified this because I do not have Simple Planes VR. Sorry.
