SCHEMPP-HIRTH Discus CS WINCH-START
Sup digga's
Back with a new glider!
As always, I spent a lot of time making this glider.
Many trail and error but here we are and its something!
It may be a little less detaild as some of my other builds.
Comparing this with with my ventus 3M, this one may look a little simple.
The reasen here for is that high part build can not be flown in SimplePlanes VR.
This time i made a Discus CS.
We have one at our gliding club so the cockpit should some what look like the real one.
The Discus was the first production sailplane to have a distinctive swept-back leading edge. This is now common in contemporary sailplanes.
Studies had long shown that the ideal wing for minimizing induced drag should be an elliptic planform.
To keep production costs down, a triple-trapezoidal approximation of this shape was adopted for the Discus. The wing section was also new.
Winglets were only available towards the end of the production run, though many have been retro-fitted.
The fuselage and tail were adapted from the Schempp-Hirth Ventus.
A version with a narrow fuselage is called the Discus 'a' and the wider fuselage version is called the 'b'.
The fuselage is made of glass-reinforced plastic around a steel tube frame. The wings and tail surfaces are also fiberglass with the exception of the main wing spar, which is made of carbon fiber.
There is a 6.5 L (1.7 US gal; 1.4 imp gal) water ballast tank in the fin for trimming purposes when the main wing mounted ballast tanks are in use (184 L combined) for a maximum wing-loading of 50 kg/m2 (10 lb/sq ft)

For those who don’t know “Digga” is a German slang word on par with words like bro and dude. It doesn’t have any relation another word that rhymes with it. Just to clarify

@TedDoesSimpleStuff Nice fleet dude!
@TheGliderGuy Your glider was pretty fun to fly! The winch launch probably felt the most realistic as others i've found sort of just flying you up at 200mph.
My club has a couple club gliders consisting off:
a DG505
2 K21's
an Astir CS
an Astir CS77
an LS4
and a Falke Motor glider
@TedDoesSimpleStuff Holly shit I Hope so too. What kind of gliders does your club have? Do you enjoy my glider??
@TheGliderGuy Sorry for the late response, i'm early solo and i'm currently flying my clubs 2 Astir's. Lets hope simpleplanes 2 might have some real glider support :D
@ApexLion1 thanks dude !! sorry for the late responts. i might have looked over it some how ahahah.
@TheGliderGuy try as best as you can
@GabrielFangster70 i can try but don’t expect much
@TheGliderGuy oh please it’s gonna look amazing, plus you can learn from previous ww2 gliders made on sp and use the same tactics that they did
I could, but I don’t have time for it so why not you?
this is great
@TedDoesSimpleStuff hahahaha hope in simpleplanes 2. you real glider pilot
Beautiful model! Now if only we had some thermals.. ;)
yay gliderrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
@GabrielFangster70 I aslo have my internship for school and i have to spend a lot of time on that. so i dont really have time in till begin December.
@GabrielFangster70 sorry that I haven't built a WW2 glider yet, it's very different from the things I make, I'm not sure if it will look any good, it seems like a fun challenge. I think I can make it
@TheGliderGuy I Will die a happy man if you make a glider from ww2 (e,g Airspeed Horsa, Waco cg-4, or dfs 230)
@TheGliderGuy no problem!
@MrSilverWolf Thanks so much means a lot coming from you !!!
@WinsWings Thankyou mate!!
awesome
