V-100 Devil Dog

593 Scorch  8.6 years ago

This is a personal favorite of mine. The V-100 was a Vietnam-era convoy escort vehicle. It was normally armed with either twin 7.62mm guns or one 7.62 and one .50 Cal (seen here). Ours normally runs with a tripod -mounted M60 strapped on over the radioman's hatch. My family collects surplus military vehicles, and Dad spent years trying to find one of these. Succeeded about seven years ago. This is as close a copy as I can manage of Devil Dog here. It was one of thirteen that went to the Marine Corps for nuclear site security. We pulled the hull off a firing range and have been restoring it ever since. (Better pictures can be seen at www.lonestar-mvpa.com under "Member Vehicles".) Same driving controls as previous designs. AG1 for the turret. AG2 for the M60. AG3 for the amphibious propulsion. Less overpowered than my LAVs, but still a bit top-heavy. Be careful turning above ~60mph.

@EternalDarkness Thanks. I know this vehicle extremely well, thanks to riding, driving and fixing it for years (including one memorable day I spent upside down waist deep in the engine compartment on the back left fixing the wiring harness a broken belt had ripped to shreds in an H-E-B parking lot. In July, of all overly hot times.) I'm the one in the turret in nearly every picture on the website because I always ride there.
