PDS Tornado Research Vehicle V1.1
Changelog: V1.1- Added a drone pod, fixed bugs regarding steering.
The PDS(Proximity Doppler reSearch vehicle) is designed to carry a state-of-the-art radar into the tornadic core and gather data. The radar is a phase array radar with cutting-edge technology to make it durable, easy to fix and cheap to manufacture. The radar can do full 3-D volumetic scans of the surrounding atmosphere(Within 15 miles) in 0.2 seconds and the environment(within 30 miles) every 12 seconds. The beam width is 0.8 degree, thus to ensure full scan capabillity, the total number of antennaes are 100,000, spread out inside the radar dome. The resolution at distance from 30 miles to 15 miles are from 200m to 100m. However, for storms within 10 miles of the radar, the resolution is enhanced via dual-pol technology and complex calculations (calculate every independent echo' time difference between every antennae and start from there) thus enhancing the resolution of 15mi-1mi scans to 20-10m. The vehicle gets the best data while stationary and parking brake engaged, and the resolution while driving can be interfered up to +150m in all radius. The data amount gathered from each chase is spectacular, so an array of hardrive is assembled to ensure 1 PB of storage in compressed format.
