The I-17 was a lightweight single-seat fighter prototype created by Nikolai Polikarpov. The first prototype was known as TsKB-15 and first flew on September 1, 1934. It had outward retracting main landing gear, a 760 hp French Hispano-Suiza engine driving a two blade propeller, and four .30 cal ShKAS machine guns in the wings. The second prototype designated TsKB-19, had a revised inward retracting main landing gear, and a Soviet 1,000 hp Shvetsov M-100 engine driving a two blade propeller. It also had provision for two 220 lb bombs under the wings. This second prototype was displayed at the 1936 Salon de I'Aeronautique airplane show in Paris together with the Tupolev ANT-25 and Tupolev ANT-35. You can see the same I-17 preserved on display at the Central Airforce Museum in Moscow.
