Part-Efficient Aircrafts~!!

my first ever Autogyro, took a bit of time and guidance(from other autogyros) but the result is.. very satisfying to say the least, hmh~

it's pretty whimsy to fly, you would expect it either to be a hover-ey plane or well, an actual plane, but it's neither, it's.. pretty interesting in terms of flight characteristics, landing wise though, it's like a.. I guess a very slow plane, bushplaney kinda feeling.

sadly enough, i can't replicate the short 30m powered takeoff thanks to well, unpowered rotors, if you give the main rotor power it immediately goes kaskadoosh, I'll probably try again next time around if i make another (please read the bold text in italian accent) autogiro,
oui oui. (chii, that's french)
oh, uh... pizza? (really? that's the best you can think of?)
err.. ciabatta? (are we naming breads now?)
...parmesan? (really? Italian foodstuffs?)
..balsamic vinegar (THAT'S STILL A FOODSTUFF CHII, AGH!)

NEVERMIND, I MADE THE POWERED ROTOR WORK AWW YEA

The Kayaba Ka-1 and Ka-2 were Japanese autogyros, seeing service during World War II for artillery spotting.

The Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) developed the Ka-1 autogyro for reconnaissance, artillery-spotting, and anti-submarine uses. The Ka-1 was based on an American design, the Kellett KD-1A, which had been imported to Japan in 1939, but which was damaged beyond repair shortly after arrival. Kayaba Industry was tasked by the IJA to develop a similar machine, and the first prototype was flying on 26 May 1941. The craft was initially developed for use as an observation platform and for artillery spotting duties. The IJA liked the craft's short, (30 m (98 ft)) take-off run, and its low maintenance requirements. Production began in 1941 and the first autogyros were assigned to artillery units for artillery spotting, crewed by pilot and spotter.

[ Controls ]

  • Standard Aircraft Controls

[ Guidelines ]

[ Taxiing ]

  • 25% Power, Yaw to turn Tailgear

[ Takeoff ]

  • Power 100%, pull up as your tail lifts from the ground

[ Flight ]

  • Standard Controls; flies funky, oh also, DO NOT DO ANY COMBAT MANEUVERS, ITS NOT A FIGHTER YA AL'S OVERDENTE

[ Landing ]

  • Power 75-50%, approach slowly, try to keep the nose up so to not let the forward propeller strike the ground

[ Armaments ]

  • 2x 60kg Depth Charge

Free to use!

if ya want to make an airbase, or maybe make an airwing for a carrier, or maybe to help battleships lead their shells, you can add and use any of my planes (unless you claim them as your own creation, i will damp your pillows if you do.)

Want More Part-Efficient Aircrafts?

come along come along! we(yes, we.) have a lot of low part, simple, and realistic performing aircrafts for all to use and fight against! light performance cost and AI-spawnable, there's no reason not to! we have the little beloved Fuchs, the graceful Muromets, the Holy Mi-26, and... a lot of obscure aircrafts are available!!

P.S. there's also Community Submitted PEA, if you wanna join our abode of simple aircrafts, I welcome!! as along as it is according to the rules down on the forum, cough.

P.S. if you want to throw in an idea, maybe a plane, a ship, anything really(I even got an interdimensional interplanetary vacuum cleaner).. go do it, I'll pick it up if i find the idea interesting enough.

@IslandSinker noted, that's something to maybe use in the future perhaps, thanks! :3

@Monarchii so that's why i could mke this takeoff vertically if i periodically alter the throttle from 0 to 100. but what i did was too simple and lazy (cuz i have no idea about funky trees)

•Set the rotor to have an activation group (anything except AG 8 since its pre toggled and i hate 8)
    • set the rotor's input to throttle; the same as the propeller.
•reduce the rotor max input of throttle to 0.5 as i only want it to have the rotors a headstart, not to takeoff like a helicopter (i just want to have a rotor rpm of atleast 80 to 140 so no annoying torque and its capable of producing lift to takeoff for the autogyro)
    • and i set the zeroOnDeactivate to "true" so when i turn off the activation group, the rotor's throttle would also turn to zero, making it only powered by autorotation.

sorry for bad engrish, this is just how i do it; but i think your use of funky trees is better than this one that i use.

basically the same as you did (making the rotor to turn off automatically after a predetermined true airspeed) but mine's more manual, and can be cheated (since i can just left the rotor to be powered even in mid-flight) but yours cannot be toggled unless someone found a way to drop the TAS to less than 10 km/h mid-air.

@IslandSinker how would you do it, if I may ask? I remember using basically rpm monitor for this one

@Monarchii most autogyros usually relies on autorotation to lift itself off, but there are some autogyros (or gyroplanes) that uses a pre-rotator system to allow a shorter takeoff speed, and its probably that allows the Ka-1 and its American cousin Kellett KD-1 to do that, but i think there's a way to replicate that mechanism.

@IslandSinker is it not the pre-powered rotor that got to decent rotate speed with the help of the engine that allowed it to have short and slow takeoff?

just downloaded this autogyro and i like this, and it can only takeoff at 85 km/h at least with only relying on autorotation (i modified the rotor HP to 0) and it was easily maneuverable (except at dogfighting cuz it's not made for it). if there would be a way to make it takeoff of atleast 30km/h for accuracy, but i think it would be hard to do.

@AshdenpawTG22 it's basically a heli-bush-planer, slow speeds, able to take off at very low speeds, lands nearly vertically of you know what you're doing, what else can you ask for? XD

@TheOfficalMarylander considering the size, i suppose so, although i must say i didn't expect how large it is actually, but its a good surprise eitherway, whimsy stuff

@Speedhunter sure, it's basically just 0hp Heli rotor; little tip, treat it like a helicopter, put the CoM on the rotor
