The E-1 Skybat was built off of the MA-25’s hull in 1981 to build a AWACS plane to combat surprise attacks not detected by ship radar. The early E-1s carried tack-on engines to take off of carriers, but the Mark II seen here has integrated carrier launch/landing technology. They kept the tack-ons in case of catapault failure. Though there are no weapons or countermeasures on the Mark II (added with the Mark III), the plane carries a large radar disc capable of finding enemy planes, and a large amount of fuel to keep the plane in the air for long amounts of time.
